How I’m Learning to Be Still

I’m probably the last person that would typically write a post like this. While I’m good at reacting during a crisis, I’ll be the first to admit, sometimes day-to-day stressors just get to me, especially when it seems like so many of them keep piling, one on top of the other. Probably one of the toughest lessons I’ve had to learn spiritually is to just be still. Probably the toughest thing I’ve had to learn to do while pregnant is to wait on God.

Let’s face it, waiting on anything is not my strong suit…I think growing up in America has taught me to be very self-reliant and impatient. After all, this is the land of drive-thru’s and self-checkout lines. This is an area that I have to submit to the Lord – oh, and didn’t I mention, I’m not so great at submission either. I’ve always worked a job…since before I’ve had a work permit…in college I worked 3 jobs to make ends meet, and try to pay school bills. Can anyone relate?

Be Still

It happened this week, as I was reading some Scriptures – have you ever been unable to get a really convicting verse out of your head until you read that passage? Well, I couldn’t turn my brain off until I began to read Psalm 46. Verse 10 says, “Be still and know that I am God.” The words “be still” struck me in a new way. I thought, “But I don’t know how to be still.”

Thoughtful, Thankful Thursday!

I’m back!!! After taking a week off for vacation, it’s not so nice to be back in the swing of things….to be honest, it’s one of those seasons where, “The testing of your faith produces patience.” And, quite frankly, I don’t know how much more testing I can take! Just keeping it real. However, I’m thankful for the time my husband and I had away from everything…because we don’t get to be on  our own time clock a lot. It was a really great chance to get to see one of my friends and coaches, Rhonda and her mom, Tina. You see, Micah and I haven’t had any money to travel until the past few months…I mean…zilch funds. We’ve been paying off debt, and really working on trying to prioritize different areas, so that one day, we can just get up and go, without dealing with the stress of finances; it’s not easy, but totally worth it. This week, I had a workout post planned for Wednesday, but decided to focus inward, not outward.

At Pearson’s Falls, NC

This week I’m thankful for:
1. Our yard getting bush-hogged – because it’s a jungle out there….LOL

4. A beautiful time in Greenville and the mountains
5. My challenger, Jennifer, who lost 9 inches in the past month!
6. My upline Ruthie, who always pushes me, and sent me a really great care package from vegas! πŸ™‚ That was so wonderful to come home to from vacation!
7. Thankful for my husband who’s always willing to try new things…like risking looking not-so-graceful while going contra dancing. πŸ™‚

Love my new fit swag! Softest t-shirt ever!

Liebster Awards, and the blogs I’m nominating

Hi Everyone,

It’s Tuesday, and it’s been a whirlwind of a week!
I looked on one of the comments on my “About Me” page and saw that I was nominated by Kimberly Cox – Adventures of But Mom, for a Liebster award! Liebster means “beloved” in German, and I am very honored to be nominated by her!
Here’s my answers to the questions she asked:

   1. What is your favorite smell? the smell of Micah’s aftershave…make me feel snuggly πŸ™‚
   2. Where do you see yourself this time next year? Traveling, finishing another degree, working from home writing and coaching full-time, and teaching the formats I love, and continuing to do worship ministry with Micah, and maybe planning to have our first child. πŸ™‚
    3. How many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop? (Just kidding) hahaha. To infinity…and beyond!
Ok, seriously (well as serious as this blog gets anyway) What is one cause you support & believe in? I really believe James 1:27 – standing for the vulnerable….society pushes that you must be the toughest, fastest, and the strongest…but Jesus rescued those who were social outcasts, and changed their lives forever.
    4. What is your favorite blog post you have written? Probably the one on goal setting, and planning…we all see fitness ads and think we want something, but waste so much time because we’d rather take shortcuts and not invest….I was preaching to myself too in that post. http://gracelaceandiron.blogspot.com/2014/03/monday-motivation-setting-goals.html
   5. What is your favorite season? Autumn, like late September and early to mid October.
   6. Rain or Snow? Snow…I love to ski and sled
   7. What is your favorite sandwich?grilled chicken, hummus, and mini peppers on a g-free wrap
   8. What is your favorite childhood memory? Standing on the handlebars of my Dad’s bicycle while he pedaled, and I hung on to his neck. (Not my mom’s favorite.)
   9. Favorite vacation spot? Holden Beach, NC or Bradenton, FL….can’t decide
  10.Favorite SuperHero? Captain America
    (since #3 doesn’t count)
11.What is the best part of blogging? Meeting new people, trying new things,  and being blessed with the opportunity to make a positive difference in people’s lives!

Now it’s my turn to pay it forward!
These people have blogs that inspire me, and I love reading their latest posts!.

Friday 5: The Power of Being Thankful

Here I am on a Friday! I’ve had such a looney past 3 weeks I don’t even know where to begin! Honestly, it’s been a convicting past 2 weeks! I will go ahead and tell you, this post is definitely more on the spiritual side of things, but it’s worth a read because of that reason…

Here lately,  I’ve noticed that we’ve become a culture of entitlement…and ME FIRST…we value our own time, energy, and resources, but want to bicker about paying for this or that…or that we didn’t get the latest and greatest whatever, well, 5 minutes ago…and recently I started picking up this attitude because I was allowing other people’s attitudes to affect mine. And then, it was like God was telling me…”Hey, remove the plank from your own eye!” And it shook me…The power of the attitude thankfulness is powerful! It can change your attitude in an instant! So this weekend…I’m going on a whining detox…I’ve started counting my blessings and I have so much to be thankful, even what’s happened today! Here are 5 things I have to be thankful for:

1. I may have another school added to my music teaching roster in the next month!
2. One of my challengers in my 21 Day Fix lost 3 inches in her waist! And…she’s not even finished with her challenge yet! That made my day that I was able to keep her accountable!
3. My hubby are releasing a new music single tomorrow!
4. My piano student aced his pieces after I left his house yesterday! He learned “Are You Sleeping?” and the “C” scale! He’s only been getting lessons for a month!
5. I’m so thankful for my friend, LizBeth, who came over and did my dishes when my dishwasher was broken!

Oh, and there will be a BIG announcement on Monday!…it has nothing to do with pink or blue! Seriously!

What are you thankful for? Comment below! πŸ™‚

 Have a beautiful weekend!
